Introduction: This article is written by British archaeologist Anke Hein to introduce the classification method of Chinese archaeology to Western scholars. Artifact classification is the basic method of archaeological data collation. Different material remains and different problems to be explored will definitely lead to different classification methods. With the progress of archaeological theoretical methods, typology is also developing continuously. For example, since the 1950s, Western academic circles have discussed the "host" and "guest" and the application of statistical methods in classification. Although China's typology borrowed from the Swedish Montelius's method in its early stages, it was basically independently explored and established by Chinese scholars, so it is different from similar methods in the West. Professor Anke Hein of Oxford University specializes in Chinese archaeology. She discussed the classification and typology of Chinese archaeology from the perspective of Western academic background and put forward her own views on its development and characteristics.
