CLD Research Brief: BRI vs. COVID-19
- Abstract:
- Key Points: • The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a major disruption to Chinese trade and investment, and has had a number of negative effects including unlinking global supply chains, causing labor shortages, and exacerbating Sinophobia. • China and its allies have adopted a number of strategies, ranging from the diplomatic to legal, to mitigate these effects. • While the situation is evolving rapidly, the pandemic may be a tipping point between Chinese economic globalization and U.S.-led pushback, with China positioning itself to lead an economic reglobalization.
