Ischemic stroke in children: New aspects of treatment

Abstract:
New mechanical recanalization devices have the potential to provide instant recanalization under optimal circumstances without the need for thrombolytic therapy. In essence, recanalization using mechanical means not only can be used in patients with an advanced time window, but also can reduce the number of bleeds associated with thrombolytic therapy. Although clinical trials will be difficult to establish in children, continued research and additional experience are imperative to treat this often devastating condition. © 2011 Mosby Inc.
