Revision of Ammonites clypealis SCHLUTER, 1872 (Santonian, Germany)

Abstract:
Ammonites clypealis SCHLÜTER, 1872, originally described from the Santonian Salzbergmergel of the Salzberg near Quedlinburg, Subhercynian Basin Germany, is referred to the genus Tragodesmoceras SPATH, 1922. The composition of the genus is reviewed: all other species firmly assigned to the genus are Turonian, and T. clypeale is regarded as a late, atypical representative, transitional to Muniericeras DE GROSSOUVRE, 1894. © 2003 E.
