New software for rigorous bearing capacity calculations

Abstract:
The introduction of computer program, analysis of bearing capacity (ABC) to calculate vertical bearing capacity of strip and circular foundations is described. The standard linear, isotropic Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion is adopted, with c allowed to vary linearly with depth. For classical case of associated flow, a collapse load could be extended throughout soil mass in statically admissible manner. It is observed that ABC could be used to produce highly accurate benchmark solutions as well as 'coarse' bearing capacities for routine analysis and design.
