Frequency dependence of tissue attenuation measured by acoustic microscopy.

Abstract:

Broadband scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) has been used to investigate the mechanical properties of sections of tissue with a resolution of around 8 microns. The work reported here extends these results by reporting the frequency dependence of the attenuation coefficient from 100-500 MHz. A discussion of the theory of the measurements is presented.
