MECHANISM ON THE ACQUISITION OF BALINESE LANGUAGE AS A MOTHER TONGUE IN THE MULTILINGUAL COMMUNITY OF DENPASAR

Abstract:: This study focuses on the language use among the indigenous communities in Baduy Luar and Cireundeu. The research investigates language use differences across various domains within Baduy Luar and Cireundeu communities, employing Fishman's (1972) theoretical framework about the domain of language use. Additionally, the study explores the potential for language maintenance and shift in these traditional villages based on Fasold's (1984) theory about language maintenance and shift. The research methodology employs a descriptive qualitative method and secondary data. The findings indicate that the Sundanese language remains dominant in both traditional villages in the intimate domain, although some variations occur in the transactional, educational, and workplace domains. Despite these variations, the study underscores the resilience of the Sundanese, preserving cultural identity and traditions. The recommendation drawn from this study for further research is to comprehend the impact of external factors and global changes on language dynamics in the communities of Baduy Luar and Cireundeu. Penelitian ini berfokus pada penggunaan bahasa di kalangan komunitas adat di Baduy Luar dan Cireundeu. Penelitian ini menelaah perbedaan penggunaan bahasa di berbagai ranah dalam komunitas Baduy Luar dan Cireundeu dengan menggunakan kerangka teoretis Fishman (1972) mengenai ranah penggunaan bahasa. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mengeksplorasi potensi pemertahanan dan pergeseran bahasa di desa-desa tradisional tersebut berdasarkan teori Fasold (1984) tentang pemertahanan dan pergeseran bahasa. Metodologi penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan data sekunder. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Sunda tetap dominan di kedua desa tradisional dalam ranah intim, meskipun terdapat variasi dalam ranah transaksi, pendidikan, dan tempat kerja. Meskipun terjadi variasi tersebut, penelitian ini menyoroti ketahanan bahasa Sunda dalam mempertahankan identitas budaya dan tradisi. Rekomendasi dari penelitian ini untuk penelitian selanjutnya adalah memahami dampak faktor eksternal dan perubahan global terhadap dinamika bahasa dalam komunitas Baduy Luar dan Cireundeu
