BAROCLINIC WAVE-PACKETS DESCRIBED BY SPATIALLY VARYING LORENTZ EQUATIONS

Abstract:
Solutions are obtained numerically for the evolution in space and time of the amplitude of a baroclinic wave packet in a weakly viscous fluid. The behaviour observed is confirmed analytically to resemble that occuring for wave trains, described by the Lorenz attractor equations, at a modified value of the viscosity parameter. © 1982.
