Blast wall strength estimated using finite displacement theory

Abstract:
A simple yield line theory can be applied to the post-buckled deformation mode of the plate to provide a lower bound solution to the collapse of panels that take into account large deflections. In the illustration given, no in-plane edge restraint of the plate is assumed and the plate resistance comes entirely from bending. A method is introduced for estimating the large-deformation capacity of panels in the absence of any in-plane load carrying capacity at the plate boundaries. This scheme is given in the form of a procedure for practical application of the method.
