The value of Webmentions as data: mapping attention to the notion of OER in the HE arena

This paper examines a specific type of online research method that draws on the analysis of words occurrence on the Web (i.e. Web mentions) as a way of assessing the impact or resonance of certain concepts, works, individuals and, more generally, issues. Apart from reviewing relevant literature, the paper illustrates the strengths and limitations of this type of data with a specific case. In particular, it focuses on the opportunities offered by this type of data for assessing the level of attention paid to the notion of Open Educational Resources (OER) across the HE institutions of Spanish-speaking countries.
