Chlorine adsorption and diffusion on Cu(111)

Abstract:

The adsorption, reaction and surface diffusion of chlorine on Cu(111) has been studied in the temperature range 110 to 900 K using low energy electron diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), temperature programmed thermal desorption and electron stimulated desorption. Chlorine adsorbs at 310 K to form a series of surface structures for increasing coverage, (√3 x √3)R30°→(6 √3 x 6√3)R30°, all of which can be represented by a single matrix: M = 4/3x(-1/2 1 1 -1/2) where x = 2/3→7/9.
