The nature of unemployment in Britain: Studies of the DHSS cohort

Abstract:
Six papers, three previously published, explore the characteristics and the behavior of unemployed individuals. Papers focus on unemployment benefits; modeling the process of job search; real earnings, gains, and losses from unemployment; the effect of unemployment benefits on unemployment entry; unemployment inflow rates for Autumn 1978; and incentive and welfare effects of reforming the British benefit system. Coauthors are Wiji Narendranathan, Jon Stern, and Jaime Garcia. Nickell is Professor of Economics and Director of the Institute of Economics and Statistics at Oxford University. Index.
