Scoping digital repository services for research data management - 4th International DCC Conference Poster

Abstract:
The backdrop to this poster includes the exponential production of research data in the next years and how researchers are increasingly required to provide data management and data sharing plans with their funding applications as well to make their data available to others. Academic institutions have the responsibility to support their researchers with their data management to fulfil their contractual requirements with funding bodies. In this poster I would like to present some of the preliminary findings of the Scoping Digital Repository Services for Research Data Management project a joint effort between the Oxford University Computing Services, Library Services, the e-Research Centre and the Office of the Director of IT. The aim of the project is to scope the requirements for repository services to manage and curate research data produced by Oxford researchers. Interviews were conducted with researchers across disciplines in Oxford to document their practices and capture their requirements for services to help them manage their data. The poster will contain a set of brief scenarios presenting some of the challenges researchers face with their data. After this, the top requirements for services to help Oxford researchers to manage their data will be presented. A list of data management services was generated from the top requirements and currently, service units in the University are being consulted to find out which services they provide or plan to provide. The poster will also display this list of data management services produced in order to identify gaps in service provision in Oxford.
