One approach to investigate gene function, by silencing the activity of certain proteins, is the usage of double stranded decoy oligodeoxynucleotides (ds decoy ODNs). Decoy, in this sense, is ds ODNs bearing the consensus binding sequence for a DNA-binding protein.
