Producing diffuse ultrasound reflections from medical instruments using a quadratic residue diffuser.

Abstract:

Simultaneous visualization of tissue and surgical instruments is necessary during ultrasound-guided medical procedures. Standard minimally invasive instruments are typically metallic and act as strong specular scatterers.
