Electrochemistry of nickel nanoparticles is controlled by surface oxide layers.

Abstract:: The kinetics of proton reduction are reported for Ni and NiO surfaces and compared to that measured at Ni@NiO nanoparticles. Kinetic acceleration is found to occur by virtue of oxide overlayers and not due to size effects on the nanoscale.
