MOLECULAR VIBRATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY WITH NEUTRONS - RECENT RESULTS FROM THE SPALLATION NEUTRON SOURCE

Abstract:

The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) is a new source for neutron research. Incident neutrons, with energies up to ca 20,000 cm-1, can be used to excite internal molecular vibrations. A new generation of spectrometers has been produced. These instruments have very high resolution, by the normal standards of neutron spectroscopy. Results will be presented which show this improved resolution. The intensities of the bands observed in neutron spectroscopy contain information on the vibrational disp...
