AN INTERFACE POTENTIAL APPROACH TO CAPILLARY CONDENSATION IN A RECTANGULAR GROOVE

Abstract:
Using an interfacial potential approach the authors study capillary condensation within an infinitely long rectangular fissure in an otherwise planar surface. They demonstrate how the groove fills sharply, but continuously, with the wetting liquid as the chemical potential and temperature are varied. This is contrasted to the situation for an infinitely deep slit, where the transition is first order.
