Ancient panel paintings known as mummy portraits

Abstract:
Spread across collections all over the world, mummy portraits offer an iconic glimpse into the ancient world and its people. Jevon Thistlewood from the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford provides and introduction to the history, original techniques and practices associated with the making of these fascinating funerary portraits. He tells us too about the conservation issues that commonly arise on these paintings.
