Biophysics and biochemistry of the pancreatic β-cell

Abstract:

The β-cells of the pancreatic islets of Langerhans are the endocrine cells which secrete the hypoglycaemic hormone insulin. The primary stimulus for insulin secretion is an increase in the plasma glucose concentration, although secretion can be modulated by a variety of hormones and neurotransmitters.
