Synapto-pHluorins: genetically encoded reporters of synaptic transmission.

pHluorins are pH-sensitive mutants of green fluorescent protein (GFP). Attached to proteins with defined cellular locations or itineraries, pHluorins report subcellular pH as well as protein transport between compartments of differing pH.
