A correlation between the titre of circulating IgG autoantibodies and disease activity has been difficult to demonstrate in bullous pemphigoid. We postulate that isotype switching from "inflammatory" IgG1 to "blocking" IgG4 subclass antibodies might contribute to disease remission.
