Background: The NMB0736 gene of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B strain MC58 encodes the putative nitrogen regulatory protein, IIA (abbreviated to NM-IIA). The homologous protein present in Escherichia coli is implicated in the control of nitrogen assimilation.
