Transport geographies
- Abstract:
- Whether or not geographers like to admit it – or even see it -, their work is often relating to transport. Transport is a key concern for multiple geographical sub-disciplines, as it is central to the organisation of everyday life, taking place at a variety of spatial scales, and intersecting temporalities. This entry is organised around four themes: (1) climate breakdown, (2) technological change, (3) transport justice, and (4) freight and logistics. These themes spotlight some of the exciting research conducted by transport geographers or geographers ‘doing’ transport research in, from and about many different places, covering transport politics, practices, governance, infrastructures and futures. It seeks to show the important way that transport manifests in relation to these, and other themes, and the vital contributions geographers have made - and will continue to make - in developing understandings of the challenges and opportunities for renewed organisations of transport in contemporary social life.
