Seasonality of eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic exacerbations of COPD
- Abstract:
- Patients presenting with an exacerbation of COPD and a peripheral blood eosinophil count >=2% have a better response to oral cortico-steroids, suggesting that stratification by this biomarker identifies a pathologically distinct phenotype and might have clinical value.3 We have tested the hypothesis that the eosinophilic and non-eosinophilicexacerbations of COPD have different seasonality using a large dataset of patents admitted to Kings College Hospital (KCH) with AECOPD over 10-years.
