The Determinants of International Remittances: Evidence from the Legalized Population.

Abstract:
International remittances are monies sent by emigrant workers to their home countries. This paper studies the determinants of international remittances. Results suggest that household consumption is a normal good for emigrants and that family composition is an important determinant of remittances. The results also validate the remittances decay hypothesis.
