Abstract:

Hypertension is associated with reduced cardiac vagal activity and decreased atrial guanylate cyclase and cGMP levels. Neuronal production of NO facilitates cardiac parasympathetic transmission, although oxidative stress caused by hypertension may disrupt this pathway.
