Spicy Food as Cause of Death – Coincidence and Necessity in Metaphysics E 2-3

Abstract:
Philosophers who venture an interpretation of Metaphysics E 3 typically do so with some trepidation. The twenty-two lines that make up Aristotle’s analysis have been described as ‘obscure’, and it is hard to free oneself from the sense that the chapter has served as a kind of Rorschach blot on which readers have exercised their philosophical imaginations.
