Tuberculosis remains a global health problem so that a more effective vaccine than bacillus Calmette-Guérin is urgently needed. Cytomegaloviruses persist lifelong in vivo and induce powerful immune and increasing ("inflationary") responses, making them attractive vaccine vectors.
