SURFACE-ACTIVITY OF POLYACETYLENE-POLYISOPRENE SOLUTIONS

The surface activity of polyacetylene 3:4 polyisoprebe block copolymers in toluene solution is examined by critical external reflection of slow neutrons. The system appears to be amphiphilic and a surface excess of polymer at the air-solvent interface is found. A high resolution measurement using deuterium contrast variation indicates that for fresh solutions, the polyacetylene "head group" forms an approximately 10 Å layer at the interface, the polyisoprene "tails" remaining in "solution" wi...
