Question. Is risk of stroke in men associated with fat intake, type of fat or cholesterol? Study design. Prospective cohort study with 14-year follow-up. Main results. There were 725 strokes during follow-up (455 ischaemic, 125 haemorrhagic and 145 'unknown type'). Intake of total fat, or any type of fat was not associated with risk of ischaemic, haemorrhagic or total stroke when adjusted for age and smoking status (p ≥0.16).
