Exotic cluster model of band structure in actinides

Abstract:

A binary cluster model reproduces, without ad hoc symmetry assumptions, the J(pi) = 0(+), 2(+), 4(+), ... and 1(-), 3(-), 5(-), ... spin sequences of the low-lying bands in actinide nuclei, as well as the corresponding quasi-rotational excitation energies and enhanced E2 transition rates. The calculations yield very similar radial wavefunctions for levels of a given band up to quite high angular momentum, implying a common intrinsic state for each band.
