Modelling of the Electron Beam Welding of a Titanium Aeroengine Compressor Disc

Abstract:

Numerical modelling is used to analyse the distortion arising during the multi-pass electron beam welding of a compressor assembly, of the type used for aeroengine applications. A 3D transient weld simulation is carried out using the finite element (FE) code Sysweld. The heating source is approximated using a double ellipsoidal function, and its predictions compared with an analytical expression.
