Demography and social structure of water vole populations: implications for restoration

Abstract:

Water voles (Arvicola terrestris) are semi-aquatic rodents which mainly inhabit linear ranges bordering water-courses and are an endangered species in the United Kingdom. Habitat loss and predation from American mink have resulted in lowland populations that are increasingly becoming fragmented and spatially isolated. Conservation measures for water voles may therefore include habitat restoration and re-introduction.
