Abstract:

Pattern formation from homogeneity is well studied, but less is known concerning symmetry-breaking instabilities in heterogeneous media. It is non-trivial to separate observed spatial patterning due to inherent spatial heterogeneity from emergent patterning due to nonlinear instability.
