BACKGROUND: rs10993994, a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at the genetic locus encoding beta-microseminoprotein (beta-MSP), is associated with both prostate cancer risk and levels of blood prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a biomarker used in prostate cancer screening.
