Grain growth in spray-formed Ni superalloys

Abstract:

The grain size of two commercial spray-formed superalloys, UDIMET 720 and MAR-M-002, has been investigated as a function of heat treatment time and temperature, ranging from the fully solid region to 0.78 fraction solid in the solid-plus-liquid region. UDIMET 720 has a γ′ solvus temperature below the solidus temperature and shows virtually no increase in grain size when heat treated below this temperature.
