BACKGROUND: The oxygenation of human pancreas by the two-layer method (TLM) during cold storage was recently established for clinical islet transplantation. Simplification of TLM would facilitate the application of perfluorocarbon (PFC) as a regularly used preservation solution for subsequent islet transplantation.
