UNMASKING THE TOPOLOGICAL CHARGE CONTENT OF FLUCTUATING LATTICE GAUGE-FIELDS

Abstract:
Lattice operators that correspond to the continuum topological charge density are, as is well known, dominated by fluctuations on the length scale of the ultraviolet cut-off and this completely obscures the pattern of topological fluctuations on physical length scales. In this paper we propose and test methods which are designed to reveal the underlying topological structure of any given Monte Carlo generated lattice field configuration. © 1989.
