Engineered bacteriorhodopsin: a molecular scale potential switch.

Abstract:

Bacteriorhodopsin, BR, is a natural, photoresponsive, biomolecule that has potential application in data storage, imaging and sensing. Being membrane-bound, however, it is coupled with metallic electronic surfaces only with some difficulty.
