Texture intensity effect on fatigue damage in an Al-Li 8090 alloy

The texture profile of a cross-rolled Al-Li 8090 alloy plate, 45 mm thick and in a T851 condition, was quantified using the electron back-scatter diffraction technique. The result showed that in the surface region texture was weak while towards the plate centre there were two main components, {110}< 112 > and {110}< 111 > (each about 40% volume fraction) which are related by a 90 degrees rotation.
