Effects of artemisinin derivatives on malaria transmissibility.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND: On the western border of Thailand the efficacy of mefloquine in the treatment of falciparum malaria has declined while gametocyte carriage rates have increased, which suggests increased transmissibility of these resistant infections.
