Why do ABCC5 KO mice show a lean phenotype?

Abstract:

ABCC5 is an ATP-dependent membrane transporter that has been shown to transport glutamate conjugates in mammalian systems. Global loss of ABCC5 from mice causes a lean phenotype with enhanced enteroendocrine GLP-1 secretion. Here we develop a protocol for the live imaging of GLP-1 secretion in vitro using a model L-cell line.
