Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the paraovarian region

Abstract:
An unusual case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma occurring in the paraovarian region is presented. The patient, a 39-year-old woman, presented with a lower abdominal mass, which was noted to be in the para-ovarian tissue (mesovarium) at laparotomy. Histopathological examination showed the presence of plump epithelioid cells arranged in cords and nodules set within a fibrous stroma. Univacuolated cells, some containing erythrocytes and nascent vascular channels, were also present. The tumor cells stained strongly for vascular markers, and the features were typical of an epithelioid hemangioendothelioma. Two years after the operation, the patient is alive and well with no evidence of recurrent or metastatic disease.
