A novel analytic parametrization of proton pencil beams.

Abstract:

Commercially available pencil beam proton therapy treatment planning systems rely on a combination of in air and in phantom measurements. The analytical algorithms describe the scatter of and geometrical variation as the beam penetrates deeper in tissue. In previous work we showed that the accuracy of this approach is limited.
