MECHANISM OF A SOLID-LIQUID INTERFACIAL REACTION - THE REACTION OF AN AQUEOUS-SOLUTION OF AN AROMATIC AMINE WITH CYANURIC CHLORIDE

Abstract:

The reaction between solid cyanuric chloride and an aromatic amine, N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DMPA) in aqueous solution is studied using the channel flow cell method in which a constant geometric area of solid is exposed to solution. It is shown that reaction occurs via the dissolution of the solid (with a constant flux of material being released into solution) followed by homogeneous coupling to the amine in parallel with hydrolysis of cyanuric chloride.
