Bismash products and group algebras

Abstract:
We give a fully detailed and expanded version of the proof given in [5] that the bismash product arising from the standard factorization of the symmetric group on p + 1 letters, where p is a prime greater than 3, does not have the structure of a group algebra. We also obtain the same conclusion for several other bismash products constructed from small groups, namely A5, S5 and GL(3, 2). The methods used involve results from group theory, the representation theory of algebras, and the theory of blocks of finite groups.
