Cretaceous faunas from Zululand and Natal, South Africa: Salaziceras salazacense (Hebert and Munier-Chalmas, 1875) from the Mzinene Formation of northern Zululand

Abstract:
A single specimen of the micromorph ammonite Salaziceras (S.) salazacense (Hebert and Munier-Chalmas, 1875) is recorded from the Upper Albian of Zululand. The species was thus far only known from France, England, and Hungary. Its discovery in Zululand questions Forster (1978) and Forster and Scholz's (1979) statement that Salaziceras migrated directly from Europe to Nigeria rather than by the longer route along the East African coast. -Authors
