Tumour hypoxia has long presented a challenge for cancer therapy: Poor vascularisation in hypoxic regions hinders both the delivery of chemotherapeutic agents and the response to radiotherapy, and hypoxic cancer cells that survive treatment can trigger tumour regrowth after treatment has ended.
