BACKGROUND: The relevance of the cause of kidney disease to prognosis among patients with chronic kidney disease is uncertain. STUDY DESIGN: Observational study. SETTINGS and PARTICIPANTS: 6,245 nondialysis participants in the Study of Heart and Renal Protection (SHARP).
